2019 Thailand Missions
Mango House!
WHY THAILAND?

There is extreme urgency and need to spread the gospel in Thailand.

In a country that is heavily influenced by Buddhism, less than 0.1% of the population claims faith in Christ. National pride is very much part of the Thai culture; the people have pictures of the king inside their homes and the city is filled with temples and shrines.

Children are put to labor at a young age without a future or a chance for education, while the women are trapped in human trafficking with no way out. Men go out to find work but opportunities are scarce and limited.

The war in Burma, located on the border of Thailand, is also a major issue, since most of our Mango House children are from Burma. Their families were forced to flee and set up tribal villages in the borders of Thailand.

"For even as the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve,
and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Mark 10:45
WHAT IS MANGO HOUSE?

In 2012, Pastor Danny and his wife Sue built Mango House, an orphanage in a rural area of Chiang Mai, to provide a safe home, a quality education, and most importantly, a Christ-centered community for our kids.

In 2018, GCC invited Mango House to America for the first time. We were able to host them for two whole weeks, where they got to experience all kinds of new foods and fun activities, like the Bible Museum, Niagara Falls, and New York City!

We were overflowed with generosity and hospitality from the church. GCC members volunteered to sponsor meals, participate in hangouts and pray for the Mango House kids. I hope and pray that we were able to show the kids the meaning of community and discipleship in Christ.

PRAYER REQUESTS

1. For our pastors and missionaries that are serving faithfully in Thailand.
Please lift up a prayer for Pastor Danny and his wife Sue, Pastor Matt and Sarah, and Nin'Mai (full-time staff) for God to give them the strength and wisdom to overcome loneliness, rejection, anxiety, disappointments and burdens that they have to face everyday.

2. For our Thailand team.
We were so blessed with a big team of 27 people including children this year! Please pray for unity of the team, for spiritual and physical protection over us while we are there, and for God to use each and every one of us to be examples of Christ to the kids.

3. For our Mango House kids.
Some of our Mango house kids do not know and understand God due to past trauma and difficult living circumstances. Please pray that God will be their Shepherd as they battle with temptations, discrimination for not being Thai descent, academic challenges, discipline, and spiritual attacks while attending their Buddhist school. Please pray for deeper intimacy and maturity in their faith.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING THERE?

Our team will be at Mango House from March 17-26. During our time there, we will be taking on the following responsibilities:
1. Leading a VBS & Youth Group Retreat
2. Hosting a carnival & club sessions like knitting and dancing!
3. Guiding bible studies and prayer meetings
4. Sharing the gospel through devotionals and testimonies

This will be my second time at Mango House! Thailand has such a special place in my heart because it was where I felt accepted, comforted and restored. When I was at Mango House away from all the distractions of the world, I was able to see just how happy these kids were. I was fortunate to have everything and yet I was miserable. Why did I feel so empty? It wasn't because I didn't have enough, but because I sought out for happiness in the wrong places.

Through the kids at Mango House, I witnessed child-like faith - not just with their words but truly relying on God with their hearts and actions. I strive to be more like them.

(Fun Fact: In Thailand, Summer break is in March, so we will pretty much be with the kids all day long!)
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them.
Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country
and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?"

Luke 15:4
